Our Story

Take exceptional locally grown fruit and turn it into something that captures a little of Maui in every batch.

Maui Dragon Delights was created around a simple idea: take exceptional locally grown fruit and turn it into something that captures a little of Maui in every batch.

Dragon fruit is impossible to ignore. Its brilliant color and tropical character make it one of the island’s most memorable fruits, and the red fleshed varieties are especially striking.

Rather than covering that character with a long list of ingredients, everything we make keeps things simple. The jam is dragon fruit, cane sugar, fresh lemon juice and fruit pectin. The candied peel is three ingredients. Even the barbecue sauce leans on the jam rather than on syrup.

The result is a small range of handcrafted Maui products designed to celebrate the fruit, the farmers who grow it, and the island we call home.

Local ingredients. Small batches. Maui spirit.

Jarred in Small Batches

Every batch is filled, sealed and labeled by hand in Wailuku.

Where It Grows

A Cactus That Climbs

Dragon fruit does not grow on a tree. It grows on a climbing cactus that will take hold of anything it can reach: a post, a trellis, a fence line.

The flowers open for a single night, then close at dawn. What follows is a fruit that ripens to a pink so vivid it looks lit from inside, its green scales tipping outward as it fills.

On Maui the plants thrive year round in the warmth and the rain. The fruit is at its best picked properly ripe and used soon after, which is precisely why everything here is made in small batches rather than large ones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Maui Dragon Delights made?

Everything we make is handcrafted in Wailuku on the island of Maui, Hawaiʻi.

Where can I buy it, and do you ship?

Everything we make is sold in Hawaiʻi only, so we are not able to ship to the mainland. Send us a note and we will point you to the nearest place to find it.

What do you make?

Four things: Red Fleshed Dragon Fruit Jam, Red Dragon Fruit Hot Sauce, Dragon Fruit Jam BBQ Sauce, and Candied Dragon Fruit Peel. All four start with the same Maui-grown fruit.

What kind of dragon fruit do you use?

We use locally grown red fleshed dragon fruit, known for its brilliant natural magenta color.

Where is your dragon fruit grown?

On Maui. The fruit in all four products is grown here on the island.

What ingredients are in the jam?

Red fleshed dragon fruit, cane sugar, fresh lemon juice, and fruit pectin.

What is in the hot sauce?

Distilled white vinegar, red dragon fruit, Fresno peppers, onion, lime juice, garlic, habanero pepper, ginger, cane sugar, and sea salt.

How hot is the hot sauce?

Medium. The label marks two chiles out of five. Fresno peppers carry the heat with a little habanero behind them, and the fruit arrives before either of them.

Is the hot sauce gluten free?

Yes. The label carries a gluten free mark, along with natural ingredients, small batch and Maui grown.

What is in the BBQ sauce?

Our own dragon fruit jam, plus tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, water, molasses, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and chipotle pepper.

Is the BBQ sauce hot?

No. There is chipotle in it for warmth and smoke rather than heat. It is a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce, not a chile sauce.

What is in the candied peel?

Dragon fruit peel, cane sugar, and fresh lemon juice. Nothing else.

Where can I see the nutrition information?

Every product page carries its Nutrition Facts panel: the jam, the hot sauce, the BBQ sauce and the candied peel. The candied peel figures are a calculated estimate rather than a laboratory analysis, and the page says so.

Is the lemon juice bottled?

No. We use juice from fresh lemons.

How should I store everything?

Refrigerate the jam, the hot sauce and the BBQ sauce after opening. Keep the candied peel in a cool, dry place and reseal it after opening.

What sizes do they come in?

The jam is 8 oz (227 g), the hot sauce is 5 fl oz (148 mL), the BBQ sauce is 8 fl oz (237 mL), and the candied peel is 57 g.

Say Aloha
